10 Retired Footballers Who Went Out In Style
7. Edgar Davids
Ajax, Milan, Juventus, Barcelona, Inter, Tottenham, Crystal Palace... Barnet.
Often utilised deep in the midfield, Davids burst onto the scene with Ajax in the mid-'90s and was promptly snapped up by Italian giants AC Milan on a free transfer.
This shrewd signing bore no fruit as the Dutch midfielder failed to establish himself in the team, though Milan made a healthy profit by selling him to Juventus for a reported £7,200,000.
In fact, despite his numerous clubs, this was the only time the nomadic man moved for a fee.
Though Davids was suspected of having retired following his departure from Crystal Palace in 2010, just two years later the then 39-year-old agreed to become the player-manager at National League side Barnet.
With a total of 22 career sending-offs (17 double-yellows and 5 straight reds), it is fair to say that Davids could be described as a bit of a hot-head, and this never became more apparent than his time at The Bees.
During his final season, he was sent off three times - which meant he made just 8 appearances whilst serving 5 total game suspensions - and announced he was leaving the club by mutual consent before even serving his full final ban.
