10 Retired Footballers Who Went Out In Style

5. Francesco Totti

Francesco Totti became the embodiment of Roma for most of the last 30 years as the Italian centre-forward spent his entire career with the Giallorossi.

Notching up 490 goals and assists in 785 is mightily impressive and the one-club man will no doubt be considered as one of the all-time greats.

As his career came to a close at the tender age of 39 he became a super-sub at the capital club.

Though his goal-scoring began to regress due to his lack of minutes, he played a magnificent role as a second striker, notching up 3 goals and 8 assists in his final 28 matches.

This might sound like a poor return, but in actuality he only played enough minutes to constitute 9.75 full games. Even on the cusp of 40, Totti was capable of great things.

His final game was a 36-minute substitute appearance in a 3-2 victory over Genoa, though it was not his performance in the match that earned him a spot on this list.

Immediately after the final whistle, Totti left the pitch only to return to a huge 'Totti 10' shirt unfurled in the centre circle and a stadium of teary-eyed fans. He gave an emotional 10-minute thank you/goodbye speech with his wife and children by his side.

Beautiful.
