10 Spurs Players Who Weren't Worth The Hassle

10. Darren Bent

For a man who has scored over 100 top-flight goals in the last nine years, Darren Bent is remarkably selective with who he chooses to flourish for. An unmitigated success at both Charlton Athletic and Sunderland, he has flopped like a damp squib at both Aston Villa and Fulham, whilst bordering somewhere in the middle at Spurs. A club record £16.5 million transfer in the summer of 2007, his hefty price tag wasn't helped by the similar fee that Barcelona were forking out for the services of a certain Thierry Henry across town. Bent endured a lukewarm time at Spurs, nothing 18 league goals in 60 appearances, as he struggled to break up the lethal partnership of Robbie Keane and Dimitar Berbatov in his debut season. The reason he makes this list, however, is for the manner in which he left the club. Finally fed up with the constant detractors and waves of criticisms shoved his way, not least the mocking jibe from his manager Harry Redknapp about a fluffed chance 'his missus would have scored', it all exploded on a social networking site. With Bent desperate to end his frustrating White Hart Lane tenure, and Spurs chief Daniel Levy intent on holding out for the right fee, Bent vented his spleen on Twitter.
''Do I wanna go Hull City. No. Do I wanna go Stoke. No. Do I wanna go Sunderland. Yes. So stop **** around Levy. Why can't anything be simple? It's so frustrating hanging around. Sunderland are not the problem in the slightest.'' - Darren Bent, July 2009.
