10 Spurs Players Who Threw A Major Strop

2. Hossam Ghaly

The attitude of Hossam Ghaly might as well have carbon fumes attached to it, such was the poisonous nature of it. To show that his demeanour at Spurs wasn€™t a one-off, he would incur the wrath of Birmingham boss Steve Bruce as he attempted to push through a move to St. Andrews€™ - but not after he had criticised training methods and the standard of players. Bruce shouldn€™t have been surprised, however, considering the nature of Ghaly€™s exit at White Hart Lane. As has been the theme of this list, there have been a number of players who have acted angrily to being substituted, but none have treated their manager, support and jersey with quite the same level of contempt and disrespect as the Egyptian displayed when he was hauled off against Blackburn Rovers in May 2007. Having been brought on in the first half, his play was so wretched that he lasted an embarrassing 31 minutes before Jol had enough. A fuming Ghaly incurred the wrath of the Spurs by ripping off his jersey and hurling it to the floor, before storming straight down the tunnel. By now, Jol had grown accustomed to these acts of petulance.
''We always deal with this sort of thing. We have certain rules and arrangements, whether it is Dimitar Berbatov, Robbie Keane, or Jermain Defoe or Hossam Ghaly, it۪s no different to me so we will deal with that internally.۪۪ - Martin Jol, May 2007.
The crowd decreed that the Egyptian €˜wasn€™t fit to wear the shirt€™, and Ghaly never played for the club again. Indeed, 18 months later upon a return from a loan stint at Derby County, Ghaly went to warm up before being instructed to sit back down by Harry Redknapp, such was the vociferous nature of the crowd. They don€™t forget such acts of disrespect.
