10 Toughest Centre Backs At World Cup 2018
6. Toby Alderweireld (Belgium)
The second Belgian on the list, Toby Alderweireld is another of the Red Devils' most reliable players. He's been outstanding at both club and international level for many years now and, at 29 years of age, will be looking at this World Cup as one of his last chances of lifting some silverware with his national side.
An unfortunate injury meant that Alderweireld missed large parts of the Premier League season, but he still played 14 league games for Tottenham. Alongside fellow countryman Jan Vertonghen, who is also one of the best defenders going to the World Cup, Alderweireld has forged one of the Premier League's strongest defensive partnerships of recent years.
As well as offering a reassuring, composed presence at the back, Alderweireld also contributes to his team's buildup play and can chip in with goals from time to time too. At international level, he's appeared 72 times and scored 3 goals for Belgium, who have one of the strongest all-round squads at the World Cup.
