10 Transfers Where Liverpool Dodged A Bullet

2. Mateja Kezman

We know him to be one of the worst Premier League flops in recent memory, but just over ten years ago he was one of the most fearsome strikers in Europe, having struck up an intuitive understanding with a teenage Arjen Robben at PSV Eindhoven. With the Dutchman on his way to Stamford Bridge, Kezman was keen to test himself in the Premier League, with Liverpool reported to have been interested.
''Liverpool are back in the race, that۪s true. It۪s a marvellous club with a great history. It would be great to join that club.۪۪ - Mateja Kezman, May 2004.
The only upside to signing the Serbian might have been that he wouldn€™t have scored against them in the Carling Cup final for Chelsea, but the negatives far outweighed the positives. Having signed for the Blues instead, it took him until December to score his first league goal - his first of four Premier League strikes for the club. With a record of seven goals from 41 appearances in all competitions during his sole season in England, Liverpool supporters will be relieved that they didn€™t have to endure that nightmarish run of form.
