10 Worst Harry Redknapp Signings

7. Pascal Chimbonda - £3 Million (Tottenham Hotspur)

It has not just been a case of failing to spot young talent, if it isn't already part of the squad, that has been a persistent failing of Redknapp's. There is also his tendency to fall back on players that have worked in the past, either for him or the club, regardless of their current form or fitness. This has been painfully obvious this season in his keenness to build QPR's backline around an over the hill and unfit Rio Ferdinand. Bringing Jermain Defoe back to Tottenham largely proved a wise move, even if it was at three times what he had been sold for just a year earlier, and Robbie Keane was similar. Chimbonda, however, was another matter. While he had been a regularly decent performer for Spurs in his first spell, receiving a call up for the French national team, he had been allowed to move to Sunderland in the summer of 2008 as it became obvious that his ability and form were both in decline. Why Redknapp thought it was worth reinvesting the £3 million Spurs had received from Sunderland to buy the player back just six months later remains a mystery. Chimbonda played in just five games in this second spell before being sold at a loss to Blackburn.
