12 Reasons Floyd Mayweather Will Defeat Manny Pacquiao
1. One Of The All-Time Great Defenses
The old adage of “Offense wins games, but defense wins championships” should be written on Floyd Mayweather’s tombstone someday. A fighter can’t do what “Money” has done over the time that he’s done it without mastering the art of defense.
After his tremendous back-and-forth encounter with Miguel Cotto, Mayweather reinvigorated his game to get back to what got him to the top. He worked closely with his father to become a defense-minded fighter again.
When backed against the ropes, it may look like an opponent is teeing off on Floyd’s head, but to the trained eye, nothing is landing as he rolls his shoulder to deflect punches. His Philly Shell defense may leave him vulnerable to straight lefts from Pacquiao if they keep things in the middle of the ring, but his impeccable footwork should keep him out of dodge.
The object of the game is to hit and not get hit.
As mentioned previously, Mayweather lands punches at a higher percentage than any fighter of his era and is hit the least. If Pacquiao attempts to bully Mayweather with wild, reckless punches, then Floyd’s defense will lead to those counterpunches.
If Pacquiao chooses to box him in the middle of the ring, then good luck to him on landing anything significant this Saturday.
You can’t beat what you can’t hit.
