Van Nistelrooy was a Manchester United great, though Diego Forlan certainly wasn't, registering just 14 goals in 92 games, although his career has seemed to happen in reverse. United were his biggest employers, but since leaving them early in his career, he went onto Atletico Madrid and exploded with 96 goals and 32 assists in 198 games. The 2010 World Cup Golden Ball winner reinvented himself and became one of the most talked about strikers in Europe for a spell. Yes, Sunderland were heavily linked with a move, largely down to the Roy Keane connection, though it never came true. Thankfully we got to enjoy Daryl Murphy and Anthony Stokes up front instead of Forlan... *tear rolls down cheek*
