Brazilian forward Alex Teixeira had caught the attention of clubs across Europe with his goalscoring prowess in Ukraine, but the £38 million asking price seemed to be putting off any potential suitors. Liverpool attempted to negotiate a transfer with Shakhtar throughout the January window, but the clubs were unable to reach an agreement over a transfer fee.
