Better known as Chopper, Harris was regarded as one of the toughest defenders of his generation, and led his team to FA Cup glory in 1970, defeating Leeds in a replay, after a 2-2 draw regarded as one of the toughest FA Cup finals in history. Chopper played his part in the equaliser, his quick free-kick leading to Ian Hutchinsons late headed goal, and the final saw Harris come to the fore in his role as both inspirational leader and uncompromising tackler. The replay also saw incident for Harris, as his late tackle on Leeds Eddie Gray after just eight minutes left Gray a passenger for the remainder of the game, as Chelsea went on to win the game 2-1 after extra-time, to seal the FA Cup for the first time in Chelseas history. Harris played a total of 795 games for the Stamford Bridge club, still a record to date, and was honoured by the club with a Special Recognition Award at a ceremony in 2011.
