20 Most Important Players In The Premier League 2014/15

18. Dean Marney - Burnley

The former Hull man may not exactly be a household name, nor one of Burnley's star players, but encapsulates everything that it means to be a team player. Experienced, at 30-years-old, with previous tastes of the Premier League with past clubs, Marney offers the desire and energy required for clubs to battle successfully against the drop. Netting three goals and contributing seven assists last season, however, makes it evident that Marney has the quality to offer much more than sheer yardage and intensity. Much of the modern game is about pressing, with off-the-ball running and organisation arguably more important than regularly threatening the opposition goal, especially when you're down at the wrong end of the table. The Clarets are being earmarked for a tough season, but Marney will run himself into the ground to defy that prediction, winning his own midfield battle if nothing else. Unafraid of a challenge, but just as keen to drive forward and pierce the opposition lines himself, Turf Moor will undoubtedly be roaring on their consistent fan favourite as he adjusts to life in the top flight once again.
