5 Athletes To Watch At The World Athletics Championships

iaff This Saturday sees the return of the IAAF World Athletics Championships to our screens for the 14th time. 2013's premier athletics championships takes place in the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow from Saturday 10th to Sunday 18th August 2013. It pits some of the world's most talented human beings against each other in 47 different events, 24 men's events, and 23 women's event (the 50km walk the only remaining inequality between the two event programmes). It's been a difficult summer for track and field athletics, with a raft of doping suspensions in Turkey, Russia, the United States, and Jamaica hitting the headlines, but hopefully minus some of the cheats, we'll have a games to look forward to in Moscow! From Renaud Lavillenie and the final bow for home favourite Yelena Isinbayeva in the pole vaults, to the dramatic clashes of Meseret Defar and Tirunesh Dibaba in the women's distance events, to the wonderfully unpredictable clashes in store for us in the throwing events, this is a championships not to be missed. With such an array of talented athletes on show, it's difficult to know who or what to look out for. Make sure you catch a glimpse of these five athletes though, whose speed, strength, endurance, or just sheer entertainment value are bound to catch the eye over the course of the championships.
