5 Inspired Sunderland Free Transfers (And 5 Total Disasters)

The Worst - 5. Alan Stubbs

It would be easy to forget that Alan Stubbs actually played for Sunderland, but once that clicks, you'll no doubt remember the controversial circumstances of his less-than-committed time at Sunderland. The veteran centre back made 10 appearances for the Black Cats, making very little impact other than moments of controversy off the pitch. The long-serving Everton man Stubbs was spotted celebrating a late Tim Cahill winner for the Blues when they came up to the Stadium of Light while he wasn't playing, and was later spotted in the stands at Goodison Park while Sunderland were in a perilous position. His heart was never in it at Sunderland, and that's unforgivable in the eyes of many Mackems.
