5 Players Who Flourished After Leaving Chelsea

1. Daniel Sturridge - Became Liverpool's New Goal Hero

Daniel Sturridge however is the one that got away where Chelsea are concerned. Sturridge endured a turbulent start to his playing career in England, leaving Manchester City after his contract expired in 2009 before ending up at Stamford Bridge. There, he struggled to make it into the first team early on, managing just 13 Premier League appearances in 2009-10 and 2010-11 before being loaned to Bolton Wanderers that January. He arrived back at Chelsea for the 2011-12 season but his career at the club was disrupted by injury and Liverpool took a chance when they signed him in January 2013. It paid off. Sturridge has well and truly flourished at Anfield since, scoring a remarkable 41 league goals in 33 appearances for the club and forming a killer partnership with Luis Suarez last season that saw the England international net 21 goals in 29 outings. Sturridge was named in the PFA Team of the Year for 2013-14 as a result of his goal-scoring exploits and was also shortlisted for the PFA Player of the Year award. He finished runner-up in the season's Premier League Golden Boot awards, coming behind strike partner Suárez following a magnificent personal season for the pair.
