5 Reasons Why Jose Mourinho Will Be Chelsea's Downfall This Season

3. He Is Trying To Do The Same Things He Did During His First Stint

The fact that he is trying to employ the same tactics that he did at Madrid and the Blues during his first time in charge at the club show that he is unwilling to compromise his own philosophy no matter which players he has at his disposal. To keep a successful team at the peak of its powers, a manager has to be changing his tact every so often, making his side tough to beat and hard to predict. Sir Alex Ferguson's time at Manchester United is proof of this, with the manager constantly dismantling winning squads to build new ones rather than wait for them to crumble. Mourinho has never been at a club long enough to do this, and is usually employed for one reason and one reason only, to win trophies in the short term. He has therefore used the same tactics at all the clubs he has been at, namely a counter-attacking solid at the back style of play, a tactic that proved his downfall at Madrid. So will it also prove to fail at Chelsea? At the moment, it looks it, with Mourinho's side looking far from convincing in all competitions due to his unwillingness to compromise his tactical approach. Results are the name of the game and no one is better than Mourinho at this, but Abramovich's preference for an attractive style of play may cause problems further down the line. The club looked to have a defined direction they wanted to go in following the purchase of plenty of attacking midfielders, but the appointment of Mourinho dismantled any progress they had made, and if it's philosophy they are looking for, they haven't yet found it.
