5 Reasons Why Fabian Delph Was Right To Turn Man City Down

2. First Team Football

While the rumours surrounding Delph's potential move to Man City spread across the internet, there wasn't much at first to worry the Villa fans. That was until it emerged that Fabian Delph had asked Micah Richards about his thoughts on a move to Manchester. Knowing the affinity Richards has with his old club it was concerning for fans of the Midlands club - thankfully Richards was reluctant to give an definitive answer. Instead of asking his new team-mate, though, Delph could instead have looked at Man City's recent transfer dealings, particularly the likes of Scott Sinclair and Jack Rodwell. Both, like Delph, were highly-regarded prospects of English football but saw their careers draw to a standstill while warming the bench at the Etihad. It's difficult to know why exactly Delph's move to City broke down, but it could well have been that first-team football was not guaranteed. Gaining a starting berth in a side boasting the midfield talents of Toure, Nasri and Silva to name a few would be difficult, and while some have criticised Delph's eventual reluctance as a lack of ambition, Delph's career will be aided by regular football at Villa.
