The first big money signing completed by the Abu Dhabi Group, Robinho moved to the club on transfer deadline in 2008 in a whopping deal which set the club back some £32.5m.

The deal came out of nowhere too, and while Robinho might not have lived up to expectations throughout his time with City, it was a massive statement from the club that they were here to change the Premier League as we knew it.

Robinho started well enough in a City shirt and scored some important goals throughout the campaign, finishing as the club's top scorer with an impressive enough 14 strikes.

His second season went rapidly downhill though and he struggled for both form and fitness, with question marks being raised around his attitude on more than one occasion throughout the campaign.

Robinho ultimately never got back to the level he showed upon his arrival in England and while not considered a complete flop, there was so much unfulfilled promise with this move that you have to say City got it wrong.
