8 Transfers Who Could Replace Christian Benteke at Aston Villa
8. Emmanuel Adebayor
When Tim Sherwood first arrived at Villa one of the most impressive aspects of his turnaround was how quickly he got Christian Benteke scoring. Under Paul Lambert the Belgian struggled last season but Sherwood managed to get the best out of him, reminding many of the impact the manager had on Emmanuel Adebayor while at Tottenham. According to the Telegraph, preliminary talks between Spurs and Villa have begun over the possible transfer of Adebayor. Regardless of the admiration Sherwood has for the Togolese international though, it's probably not a name that excites many fans. With only three league appearances in 2015 and some personal issues he'd represent something of a gamble, especially given his hefty wages. Given the club's frugal financial approach during the last few seasons loan signings could be an effective way to bolster Sherwood's squad. A recent Daily Mail article outlined the manager's views on loan signings:
"There will be players at other clubs where they want their players to go out and play some games. We can be that club."
If Sherwood could get Adebayor scoring goals, as he has done in the past, he might be worth a look.
