Arsenal Sign Left Back Andre Santos From Fenerbahce

Brazilian international full-back signs on at the Emirates in a deal reportedly worth £6m...

Arsenal, the club who arguably need to do the most business today have kicked off their dealings with the acquisition of Fenerbahce's 28 year old Brazilian left-back Andre Santos. He signs on a long-term deal with a fee thought to be about £6m, and will plug the gap left by Gael Clichy's jump to Man City earlier in the window, which was so poorly filled by Armand Traore against Man Utd at the weekend. How this will go down with Arsenal fans is unclear right now, with a majority quite vocal on the club's need to invest in tried and tested players with experience of the Premiership or at least good experience of major European competitions, after the perceived failure of Arsene Wenger's long-term transfer policy of blooding young potential stars. Wenger spoke to the official Arsenal website to announce the signing:
Santos is a quality player, with the ability to both defend well and get forward and help with attacks. He has experience in the Champions League and for Brazil and has proven he can deliver at the highest level. We welcome Santos to the club and look forward to him having a big impact for us.
And Santos himself confirmed his happiness at joining the North London club:
I am delighted to have signed for Arsenal. It was one of my dreams to play for a major European football club and I have accomplished this. I am very happy to be part of this team. All the Brazilians who came to this club spoke wonders about it and I am delighted to be part of the Arsenal family.
But fear not Arsenal fans, I've taken the Dennis Wise route for scouting and investigated what youtube has to offer on this particular question. And what I found looks impressive: http://youtu.be/UEhlvsHF1L8 But then, they don't tend to show you the bad points in a highlight reel now do they? With defensive and attacking options now in through the door, Arsenal must surely be looking to plug the considerable vacuum left by the departures of both Fabregas and Nasri, with a definite lack of flair threatening to curtail the club's intentions this season. That is unless Arsene has decided that his current squad has the necessary depth already... Something tells me his club's supporters wouldn't agree.
