Arsenal Transfer News: Gunners To Miss Out On Luis Suarez?
London Evening Standard. The unsettled Uruguayan has confirmed he still wants to leave the Reds in order to join a Champions League club. And while Arsenal were hopeful of landing the 26-year-old, despite having seen a bid of £40 million and £1 rejected, they could have their hopes dashed with news that the forward wants to join Real Madrid instead. It is understood Suarez is prepared to seek legal action against Liverpool over the contentious release clause inserted in his contract at Anfield. The player believed that a bid in excess of £40 million would allow him to leave, but his club continue to insist that the paperwork only forced them to notify him of the offer. Arsenal have made signing Suarez their priority this summer and share their transfer target's belief that the bid of +£40 million triggers the release clause. But the London Evening Standard go on to write that there is a belief within the Suarez camp that Real's interest could be revived were the Premier League to rule in the striker's favour and effectively set the player's market value at just over £40 million. The Premier League have arbitrated on such issues previously with Gabriel Heinzes dispute being one of the best examples of such a case. The then-Manchester United defender attempted to get the Premier League to force United into letting him join Liverpool, but perhaps ominiously for Arsenal, that bid failed and the player was sold to Real instead.
