5. Real Madrid
Appeal: Champions League, current Spanish champions and Jose Mourinho.
Negatives: Squad rotation, ability to fit into Spanish football. Despite reported interest from the Spaniards, would the Dutchman fit into Jose Mourinho's La Liga winning side? He would have to displace either Gonzalo Higuain, who scored 22 goals last year or Karim Benzema, who scored 21, for the opportunity to link up with free-scoring Portugese attacker Cristiano Ronaldo. But 37 goals last term in all competitions would appear to put Van Persie ahead of both, if he were to sign, and was able to recapture that form. The opportunity to play for Madrid, and the likelihood of challenging for the La Liga title again next season, plus the chance of a strong Champions league campaign would appeal to Van Persie's footballing ambitions, and the club aren't exactly short of the funds that would ensure the kind of attractive contract the Dutchman is said to want. However, Van Persie would probably do well to remember the time that compatriot Klaas-Jan Huntelaar spent at the Bernabeu - a half season in which the striker, who had scored a massive 76 goals in 92 games for Ajax was limited to just 20 performances. Yes, he scored 8 goals in that time (from just 13 starts), but he wasn't even included in the club's Champions League squad, and left with part of his value wiped out to spend an equally regrettable time at Milan.
