Celtic: 10 Incredible Stats You Won’t Believe From The SPL Era

1. The Fastest Goal In The West (Of Scotland)

In the last year of the SPL Era, there wasn't much going for Scottish football. It was being almost universally lambasted as a joke and with Rangers languishing in the lower divisions, Celtic were able to romp away with the league. Motherwell's Michael Higdon picked up the top goalscorer award and for the first time since the inception of the SPL no Celtic player won either the Players' or Writers' Player Of The Year Award. Lean times indeed. One of the decided highlights of the season was the fastest goal in SPL history, scored by Celtic's Kris Commons against those pesky Aberdonians. Gary Hooper took the kick off, Stokes passed it back to Mikael Lustig who launched the ball forward. Hooper flicked it onto his strike partner Anthony Stokes who did fantastically well to play the ball into the box for Commons who took a touch and smashed it home, all inside 12.2 seconds. The goal, which combined a total of 10 touches, beat the previous SPL record set by Anthony Stokes when he was playing for Hibernian in 2009. He scored against Rangers in 12.4 seconds. Close.
