5. Chelsea Need A Manager Who Will Stay - Long Term
One of the biggest obstacles standing in the way of Chelsea's long-term success is not an opposing team or rival, but a complete lack of inconsistency. The Blues have become something of a running joke since the take-over by Abramovich - an owner famed for his endearing patience he is not. Since Mourinho's appointment in 2004, Chelsea have gone through eight different managers - 'interim' or otherwise - in the past nine years. This is simply unacceptable. When you consider Sir Alex Ferguson has delivered 37 trophies to Manchester United over the course of two decades, it becomes apparent that patience and trust is needed in order to instil success. Is Mourinho a man who is going to stay with any one club for 20 years, however? Well the answer to that question is a resounding
no. The Portuguese' is renowned for flitting from club to club, winning a trophy here, winning a trophy there, and the longest he has remained with a single club is three years. Chelsea need a manager who can commit himself to the cause long term - and Abramovich has to let him - otherwise they are destined for an endless period of uncertainty and upheaval. Appointing from within would be Chelsea's best bet - someone who loves the club and wants to stay for the long haul - someone like John Terry, who
has been tipped with the vacancy recently.
