The New Man in Charge
With van Marwijk gone, Holland need a new coach, and fast. The Netherlands€™ next competitive match will be a World Cup qualifier against Turkey in September - and that's just two months away. The Dutch FA must succeed where their English counterparts failed and act fast on the matter. Whoever the next man in charge may be, he is going to need time to get used to the team and start making changes as early as possible. The big question though is, who will this new man in charge be? Louis van Gaal would be the one obvious candidate. He has managed European giants Ajax and Barcelona, (twice, either side of a two year stint as the Netherlands team coach from 2000-02) as well as Bayern Munich most recently. He is currently without a club however and the Dutch FA would therefore not have to pay any compensatory package. Former Oranje manager Guus Hiddink might also be interested, though. He coached the team from 1994 until 1998 before leaving for Real Madrid. Since then, he has managed a number of other nations, including the South Korea, Australia and Russia. He is currently footballing director of Anzhi Makhachkala, but the contract was only for 18 months when he signed it back in February this year, and the temptation to have another stint with the Netherlands might be too much for the former Chelsea caretaker manager to resist. However, the most obvious choice is perhaps another former Holland coach - Frank Rijkaard. He had a successful stint as boss of Barcelona can be considered as definite success there. He would be ideally suited to a second spell in charge of Oranje as he has mostly been able to manage big egos with consummate ease.
