Liverpool Transfers: Unlikely Falcao Bid Now Off

Colombian set to join James Rodriguez at Real Madrid.

Liverpool's attempt to sign a striker continue onwards. After Loic Remy either failed a medical or pulled a switcheroo on his wage demands, depending on who you listen to, Brendan Rodgers has been scouring the imaginary Lonely Hearts pages for a striker with experience, fitness and a GSOH to join his new Champions League project. So far, that search has proved fruitless, but there was a glimmer in the collected eye of all Liverpool fans as news trickled in that the club might be looking at a cheeky bid to try and bring Falcao to Anfield from Monaco. That now looks to be over, as the Colombian tank has made it very clear that he is destined to sign for Real Madrid, and line up with both James Rodriguez and Karim Benzema to form one of the most fearsome strike-forces in the world, especially with Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo feeding them. But then, they needed something special with Luis Suarez at Barcelona, and perhaps a killer front-line is the best possible way to make sure the side take advantage of the Uruguayan's ban. Liverpool had apparently looked into the possibility of taking Falcao to Anfield on loan as a short term replacement for Luis Suarez, but were put off not just by his commitment to join Madrid, but also by the fact that Monaco were seeking a £12m loan fee on top of Falcao's £10m a year wages. In the grand scheme of things, that would have been the most expensive temporary solution in the history of the Premier League. So where do Liverpool go now? Who should they sign to replace Luis Suarez with time ticking down? Share your thoughts below in the comments thread.
