Louis Van Gaal Has No Regrets About Snubbing Spurs
The Dutchman has no regrets over turning down the White Hart Lane Club.
New Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has revealed that he does not regret turning down the opportunity to manage Tottenham Hotspur in order to take over at the Old Trafford club. The Dutchman has found that he has quite the task on his hands since his arrival, as his team have earned just two points from three Premier League matches with Swansea City, Sunderland and Burnley respectively, as well as suffering a humiliating 4-0 Capital One Cup thrashing at the hands of League One MK Dons. Van Gaal had this to say when speaking to the Daily Mirror:
No, I dont regret taking this job. Yes, it is a massive job I have taken on at Manchester United. I realise that. And the situation is not worse than I thought. I knew what I would find on my plate. I could have opted for an easier job. If I had gone to Tottenham, the job would not have been as enormous as here at United. I could have easily gone to Spurs. But I chose the biggest challenge of all the jobs in football. And I really wanted to join the number one club in the country, not Tottenham. Financially, Tottenham was kind of as attractive as Man United. But, in my eyes, Man United is still the number one club in England. Tottenham really is not.Spurs' start to this season has been much more positive than United's, as two early wins in the Premier League against West Ham United and Queens Park Rangers and two wins over two legs against AEL Limassol of Cyprus in the Europa League gave Mauricio Pochettino a 100% start prior to a 0-3 home defeat to Liverpool, but the former manager of the Netherlands national side remains adamant that he made the right decision. Van Gaal has, so far, spent around £150 million in his short spell as the Red Devils' boss and will be hoping that the new blood pushes his team up the table quickly.
