Man City: 5 Reasons Mancini Has Failed This Season

1. Failure To Build

manchester city Manchester City owner Sheikh Mansour and his investment vehicle Abu Dhabi United Group have sunk at least £1billion into the club since 2008 to transform them from mid-table also-rans into a team capable of winning the Premier League title. Players such as Carlos Tevez, Sergio Aguero, Samir Nasri, David Silva, Yaya Toure and the recently departed Mario Balotelli were all brought in to spearhead the City revolution and for a short while it worked. But now the wheels are falling off and City's title charge has careened into a ditch. Along with the issues I have already identified, another reason for this dramatic reversal in fortunes is Manchester City's failure to build on last season's title winning team. Compared to the side of last season, this City outfit look a tired and ordinary reflection to the one that pipped United to the crown. It is obvious now that replacements were needed - has City signed one more world class striker either in the summer or January windows in the mould of Robin van Persie or perhaps Edinson Cavani, then the title race would probably still be alive. Mancini knew Yaya Toure would be away at the Africa Cup of Nations and considering how important he is to City's cause, it is amazing he didn't buy back-up last month. Failure to replace Balotelli could also be a very costly mistake. Now City are left to limp over the finishing line rather than sprint across it as they did last season.
