One of the more low-key departures from Old Trafford this summer was that of Dutch left-back Alexander Buttner, who had previously shown flexibility as a converted winger at his former club Vitesse. Though he wasn't given an abundance of minutes during his two years at Man United, there were certainly sour grapes with regard to the manner in which he completed his permanent transfer to Dynamo Moscow. Given the utilisation of Dirk Kuyt as a wing-back during the World Cup in Brazil, the Dutchman left as though he was "unfairly ignored" before his time at the Red Devils came to a close. Using a rather small sample size to argue his corner, Buttner drew upon his Man of the Match winning performance against Bayern Munich in the Champions League, where the 25-year-old came out victorious in his duel against Netherlands international Arjen Robben. Due to the limited nature of Kuyt's delegated job during the World Cup, Buttner remains of the belief that he could have donned the shirt of Man United for at least another season, as he told the Sun: "When I see how the left-back position was filled against Argentina, I know I could have played there." "I'm disappointed in Van Gaal for not giving me a chance."
