Man Utd Transfer News: Luka Modric Is Cesc Fabregas Alternative?

ESPN. On Sunday, United manager David Moyes admitted he was unsure if he would be making a fresh offer for Fabregas after failing with two bids for the 26-year-old. Now, with it looking increasingly unlikely that Moyes will land the former Arsenal captain, the Scotsman is believed to have targeted Modric instead. The Croatian is a long-term target for the Premier League champions, with former manager Sir Alex Ferguson keen on signing the 27-year-old while he was at Tottenham Hotspur. According to The Times, United's interest in Modric had cooled following his move from White Hart Lane to the Bernabeu last summer, but he has since popped back up on their radar following the club's failure to land prime targets. The former Spurs star revealed midway through last season that he would welcome a return to the Premier League, and Madrid could be open to selling, particularly if they land attacking midfielder Gareth Bale this summer. However, Modric has welcomed the new management at Real since the appointment of Carlo Ancelotti as Jose Mourinho's successor and could now be less inclined to move.
