Man Utd Transfers: 5 Shocking Failures Moyes Made In Transfer Window

5. Wasting Too Much Time On Cesc Fabregas

Far, far too much time was wasted in the pursuit of Barcelona's Cesc Fabregas this summer. United's interest in the midfielder started on July 15 with a £25 million bid, which was considered but ultimately determined to have fallen below Barca's valuations. Then, on July 22nd, a second bid of £30 million was made, which prompted the Spanish giants to come out and declare the player was not for sale. Yet until as recently at August 24, one month later, Moyes was still chasing the ex-Arsenal captain and was considering a £40 million offer. Meanwhile, while all this was happening, more affordable and realistically available players such as Luka Modric, Ander Herrera and Daniele De Rossi were being overlooked. United came in with a bid for De Rossi last Friday, three days before the closure of the transfer window, and it was already too late. Instead of persuing alternative targets sooner, Moyes was too hung up on capturing Fabregas.
