I touched earlier on the fact that Xabi Alonso knows when to pick a pass, well he also know exactly how to execute a pass as well. What is impressive about Alonso's passing is that he manages to make it accurate regardless of what type of pass it is; he is as comfortable playing a 4o yard worldy as he is a short 5 yard square ball. If he is given time and space in the middle of the park he will hurt United with his range of passing, switching the play from flank to flank and looking for killer through balls to Ronaldo and Benzema. In tonight's game, Madrid can afford to sit back and soak up some pressure because Alonso's passing ability gives them the option to quickly turn defence into attack and this is probably the reason he gets the ball so much in matches.
