2. Gerrard v Silva

The two men at the heart of their respective teams attacking play, providing chances for their teammates through their incisive football in the attacking third are Steven Gerrard and David Silva. It will be up to these two players to unlock the game and provide the creative hub for their side; one of these two men will likely prove the match winner. Steven Gerrard can be described as many things: exceptional player, England Captain, and fully-fledged Anfield legend. He has achieved much in his career so far and is a name recognised and revered by football fans worldwide. His importance to Liverpool in the past and in the present cannot be overstated, he is crucial to their chances in the league and the red half of Merseyside will be relying on him to come up with the goods against City. David Silva is undisputedly one of the finest players in the Premier league. Since his move from Valencia to Manchester City last summer, the diminutive Spaniard has astounded fans in England with his incredible technical ability, having settled into English football effortlessly. He notched 8 goals for City last season, as well as an astonishing 22 assists. Manchester City will be reliant on their playmaker against Liverpool and have good reason to believe that he wont let them down.
Verdict: Although Im a huge admirer of Gerrard and hes a total legend, I must say that hes past his prime and cant really compete with Silva, whos in the form of his life. I think David Silva will have a greater impact on the game because of his flair and relative pace, and thus win this battle of the playmakers. Silva to come out on top.
