Newcastle Manager's First Interviews - Did They Deliver On Their Promises?

11. Chris Hughton

Despite all the great work Chris did, he was portrayed more of a puppet than the manager of Newcastle United during his time at the club. So much so that he didn't actually give an interview when he was either put in charge of the first team on a caretaker basis or given an 18 month deal in October 2009. Instead, United dealt in club statements back then and the one they released when Chris was given the go-ahead to take the job on a more permanent basis told us nothing that we didn't already know about the former Spurs man. Hughton's press release was dominated by the news that Ashley had taken the club off sale and an approach from local businessman Barry Moat had been rebuffed. This was how under-appreciated Chris was from the outset. Goodness knows where United would be today without the crucial salvation work he did between May 2009 and December 2010. Did He Deliver? More Than Anyone Could Have Imagined!
