Of all the Premier League clubs, Newcastle’s fanbase suffered through the most underwhelming transfer window. Upon their return to the big time and with Rafael Benitez in charge, there was an expectation that the Magpies would bring in some top-class players to match the calibre of their manager.

Yet, as the summer unfolded, it became clear that Benitez was frustrated with the failures of Newcastle’s recruitment team. The Magpies are short all over the park, particularly at left-back and, more importantly, centre forward.

His disappointment could lead Benitez to seek greener pastures if an opportunity elsewhere arises. Mike Ashley has gambled on the Spaniard’s management keeping Newcastle up. He better hope that Rafa stays, otherwise the Toon Army could face another drop down to the Championship.
