Premier League Transfer Window Latest: Day 1 Round-Up

wallaceLast updated: 23:38 1/1/13 One of today's big moves saw the finalisation of a deal for Wallace, an 18-year-old right-back moving from Fluminense to Chelsea. The Blues are loaning the Brazillian back to his former club until the end of the season. He went for an undisclosed fee, thought to be around £5m. This deal €“ like many others that went through today €“ had been agreed in the last month or so, but could only be ratified once the window was open. Staying in London, former Chelsea and Tottenham goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini announced yesterday that he has agreed to end his 13-year stay in the Premier League and head to David Beckham's old haunt, LA Galaxy, on a free transfer. The other big December mover to the Premier League was Daniel Carrico, a versatile midfielder and former captain of Sporting Lisbon. The 24-year-old - who also can play at centre-back - is off to Reading for £600,000. Carrico put his decision to move to the Royals down to his age, saying "I am at a stage of my career where I have to take chances". West Brom€™s Chris Wood completed his move to Leicester City today for a fee believed to be around £1m. While you won€™t have seen him on Match of the Day €“ he€™s been on loan at Millwall all season €“ he has excelled in the Championship, with 11 goals in 19 games. Also moving away from the Premier League is 34-year-old Danny Higginbotham. The defender has moved from Stoke City to Sheffield Wednesday on a 6-month deal, with the Blades having the option to extend his contract. Elsewhere in the Football League, Mark Beevers€™ permanent move to Millwall from Sheffield Wednesday has been confirmed. The defender impressed in an emergency loan, and has already made a number of appearances for the Lions. League Two side Crawley Town have nabbed 20-year-old striker Lateef Elford-Alliyu on a free transfer after former club Bury cancelled his contract. This move was announced yesterday and also comes into effect today. Jack Compton, the winger formerly at cash-strapped League One side Portsmouth, has finalised his move to fellow strugglers Colchester United on a free. Centre-back Josh Thompson has also moved from Pompey to the Us, having made a number of appearances at Cuckoo Farm on loan. He too leaves on a free transfer. As is always the case in the build-up to the winter transfer window, the rumour mill has been in full swing. With Falcao looking less and less likely to join Chelsea, the papers are rife with speculation as to who will tide them over. Sky Sports reported at half time of the game at Goodison Park on Sunday that the Blues had activated Demba Ba's £7.5m release clause; the next day, the Sun claimed that talks had stalled over wage demands. Abramovich won't be the only man putting his hands into his deep pockets, though; Roberto Mancini, whose squad is struggling with injuries and players heading to the African Cup of Nations, expects to spend in January. Arsene Wenger, too, is under pressure to add some big names to his side. And with Harry Redknapp at Premier League strugglers QPR with a few bob going spare, how long will it take until we get one of his famous car window interviews? With speculation mounting over the futures of Wesley Sneijder, Theo Walcott, Frank Lampard, David Villa, Wilfried Zaha, and Joe Cole - just to name a few - expect some massive transfers this window!
