3. Carlos Cuéllar's Record Breaking Season
Carlos Cuéllar's exit at Ibrox is often lamented as a great loss. He was only there for one season before moving onto the bright lights of the Premiership at Aston Villa but he became a stalwart at the heart of the Rangers defence.
During the 2007/08 season Cuéllar played a club record breaking 65 games in all competitions and with him in the centre of defence, the club conceded only 33 goals as they finished runners up in the league. Cuéllar later told journalists:
"I want to stay at Rangers for life."
He left for Aston Villa after the first game of the 2008/09 season. Although Villa had triggered a release clause in the Spaniard's contract, manager Walter Smith was said to be "surprised and disappointed" that he had chosen to leave.
