African Cup of Nations 2012: Equatorial Guinea 2 - 1 Senegal
Equatorial Guinea dumped one of the pre-tournament favourites Senegal out of the African Cup of Nations in dramatic fashion on Wednesday evening as they prevailed 2-1 winners in an engrossing tie. Equatorial Guinea had taken the lead midway through the second half through Randy, following a perfectly placed cross from full-back Kily. Newcastle United's Demba Ba was substitued after 60 minutes after a poor display, squandering numerous chances in front of goal for Senegal. His new club team-mate Papisse Demba Cisse faired little better, seeing little sight of goal for the Lions of Teranga. The game was played in difficult conditions following heavy rain in the Bata region, with the ball not moving freely in certain areas of the pitch. Senegal appeared to have salvaged a point from the game when Moussa Sow found the net from close range with less than two minutes on the clock. Minutes later a strike from Senegal's Ndiaye was drilled just inches past the upright. But it was to be Equatorial Guinea's moment in the sun. As the last of the five minutes of stoppage-time approached, the ball fell to man of the match Kily to score with a perfect strike from 30 yards. His celebration earned him a yellow card, while team-mate Laurence Doe was sent off for an unclear offence. Senegal go out of the competition having picked up no points in their first two games, while Equatorial Guinea progress to the Quarter Finals with two wins from two.
