Spurs Transfer News: Real Madrid Give Up On Gareth Bale
Marca, Real Madrid have finally admitted defeat in their relentless tapping up and pursuit of Tottenham Hotspur's Welsh superstar Gareth Bale. The La Liga giants' President, Florentino Perez, has reportedly stated that the Spurs' Chairman, Daniel Levy, is playing hardball - something he is notorious for - and is simply not open to negotiation regarding the potential transfer of Bale, no matter how large the bid is. If this is true, it will come as very welcome news to Spurs fans and indeed Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas, who is said to have turned down the cash-rich advances of Paris St. Germain on the basis that, amongst other things, Gareth Bale remains at the White Hart Lane club. It is also reported that Spurs' new signing - Brazilian midfielder Paulinho - signed for Spurs after having been given the guarantee that star man Bale would be staying put. The news about Real Madrid giving up on Bale follows quotes from the Welshman's agent, Jonathan Barnett, this morning. Barnett told Marca; "Bale has not said no, nor yes. There's no offer from Madrid". It looks as though the Spanish club will have to wait at least another season to have a crack at signing the attacking sensation who starred in the Premier League last season.
