Former Manchester United striker Michael Owen has become Stoke manager Tony Pulis' seventh signing of the summer. Owen spent three seasons at Old Trafford and scored seventeen times in limited appearances from the bench. He has started only one Premier League game in two years. He was released by Manchester United in May and has been a free agent since. Owen joins summer signings Jamie Ness, Geoff Cameron, Michael Kightly, Maurice Edu, Charlie Adam and Steven N'Zonzi in what has been a fairly active transfer window for Potters' manager Tony Pulis. With 89 caps for England and 40 International Goals, the former Liverpool and Real Madrid frontman will bring with him a wealth of experience to the Britannia Stadium. Speaking to the BBC, he was quick to heap praise on the squad currently being built at Stoke.
"We have been in talks for a while and it was a club I was always keen to join. I'm particularly excited at the prospect of working under Tony Pulis. He has assembled a great squad that I look forward to joining. "I'm now looking forward to contributing as much as possible to the club and can't wait to play in front of a great set of supporters."
Owen featured only 52 times for the Red Devils in what was a largely low key spell, though famously got the winner against Manchester City in an epic derby that ended 4-3 to Sir Alex Ferguson's men in September 2009.
