The result itself might appear to be rather average, yet this victory over the Baggies marked the end of the greatest of great escapes.

Sunderland somehow got over the line after a stunning run of results saw them once again dodge the relegation bullet, beating Chelsea and Man United away in the process.

Jack Colback poked home a Marcos Alonso cross early on before Fabio Borini scored an exquisite volley to virtually kill the game before half time.

Even though the game was a relatively poor one,  it signified so much more than just a victory. The side had come back from the dead to somehow stay in the division. The Great Escape theme tune was sung in the terraces as the fans produced an unbelievable atmosphere, bringing a season of unbelievable drama to a close.

Miracles do happen!
