The Most Expensive Liverpool XI Of All Time
4. CM: Naby Keita
While Fabinho has surpassed expectations, the same cannot be said for Naby Keita who has struggled to live up to the hype.
In 2017 Keita was already a Bundesliga wonder-kid and he agreed to move to Liverpool the following year, for what was then a club-record fee. His last year with RB Leipzig confirmed his status as one of the best box-to-box midfielders and upon arrival in Anfield he was handed the coveted No.8 shirt, not worn since the departure of the legendary Steven Gerrard.
But so far it hasn't quite gone to plan for the Guinean. Consistent injuries and a lack of fitness have been the main problem and it took until April 2019 for him to finally get on the score-sheet. While he has occasionally shown the flair and quality that convinced Liverpool to splash the cash, it's so far been a poor showing.
Although his absence hasn't really been felt with the likes of Wijnaldum, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Xherdan Shaqiri stepping up to the plate, it has left Keita as nothing more than a bit-part player in the Reds' team. Now 25, he still has plenty of time to change that, if he can stay out of the treatment room.
