UFC Fight Night 44: Matches To Make For The Winners

Carlos Diego Ferreira

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=--Nc6u87bdk Carlos Diego Ferreira earned a Performance of the Night bonus for his submission of former TUF winner Colton Smith, but I want to be clear: Smith probably doesn't belong in the UFC. He won a horrible season of TUF, horrible in both skill level and overall watch-ability. Almost nothing good came of TUF: Team Nelson vs. Team Carwin. From Dana White berating one of his most marketable fighters, to "Let me Bang, Bro" and all the way to Shane Carwin dropping out of the fight due to injury and retiring, it remains one of the most universally disliked seasons of TUF - astonishing since Big Country is beloved by fans and was a coach. Smith absolutely put himself in a bad position and let Ferreira submit him. Okay, "let" is a strong word, but Smith came in off his first full training camp ever, and still didn't look like he belonged in the octagon. He's now 0-3 since winning TUF. If he gets one more fight, he's lucky. It will likely be on Fight Pass if it happens. I don't want to just keep bashing Smith however, my main point is just that we cannot judge where Ferreira is really at based off that fight. That was his debut UFC match, and the company should look at adding him to a card in Brazil next, perhaps against another Brazilian fighter with one or two UFC fights under their belt. If a battle of Brazil isn't your thing then Tae Hyun Bang, who recently cashed in big with bonuses of his own, would be an option, or Canadian Mark Bocek, who picked up his most recent win this past April.
