West Brom Transfer News: Obafemi Martins Loan Bid Failed

Russian side Rubin Kazan are to reject West Bromwich Albion's loan enquiry for former Newcastle United and Inter Milan Forward Obafemi Martins

Russian side Rubin Kazan are to reject West Bromwich Albion's loan enquiry for former Newcastle United and Inter Milan forward Obafemi Martins, according to the Daily Mail. Rubin seem dead set on the Nigerian international leaving on a full transfer rather than a temporary move to Steve Clarke's side, or any club that may be interested for that matter. Rubin Manager Kurban Berdyev is pushing to recoup around £3 million and is adamant that no loan move will be considered. The player's own wage demands of around 40k a week would also provide a major stumbling block for a permanent move to the Hawthorns, with the club's hierarchy unlikely to want to pay such high wages on a forward who has been less than prolific over his club career. It€™s difficult to see Steve Clarke paying such high wages when the likes of Peter Odemwingie, Shane Long and Simon Cox already in the squad. 27-year-old Martins made 88 career appearances for both Inter Milan and Newcastle United, netting 28 times for each club. For his country he has averaged at just under a goal every other game, with a record of 18 in 37 matches. Martin€™s will always be renowned for his last gasp goal for Birmingham City in the 2011 Carling Cup Final, bringing the League cup trophy to the midlands and providing a shock result against a stunned Arsenal.
