When France defeated Croatia to claim World Cup 2018 victory, it marked the second time Didier Deschamps has been able to lift the most prestigious trophy in football. The first time came 20 years earlier when he captained France to victory on home soil in 1998.

Many great players go on to have successful managerial careers, but Deschamps became only the third ever man to win the tournament as both a player and a manager.

He joins very elite company as the two other men to achieve this are Germany and Brazil legends Franz Beckenbauer (1974 and 1990) and Mario Zagallo (1958, 1962, and 1970).

After the national team fell at the Quarter Final stage four years ago, and didn't even make it out of the group stage in 2010, Deschamps has masterminded a quite incredible turnaround for his nation, who will surely be a force for the foreseeable future.
