10 Actors Who Got Kicked Out Of Their Own TV Shows
3. Steve Carrell - The Office
It's no surprise that the overall quality of the American version of The Office took something of a hit in the wake of Steve Carrell's departure from the show in season seven. As Michael Scott, Carrell acted as the life and soul of the nutty party, with not even a string of notable cameos from stars like Will Ferrell being enough to paper over the huge cracks left behind in his absence.
So, you'll probably be surprised to hear that Carrell didn't actually leave the show willingly. According to one of the star's co-workers on the show, the talented comedy actor was very much willing to stick around for a few more seasons if an offer was on the table to do so. In a conversation with Collider, the head of the show's hair department Kim Ferry said:
"He didn't want to leave the show. He planned on staying on the show. He told his manager and his manager contacted them and said he's willing to sign another contract for a couple years. So all of that was willing and ready and, on their side, honest. And the deadline came for when they were supposed to give him an offer and it passed and they didn’t make him an offer."
Would The Office have survived longer than its eventual nine season run had Carrell been given the chance to stick around as everyone's favourite out-of-his-depth boss? (OK, it's a tie between him and David Brent) That much isn't sure, but we do know that the star appeared to be all in on keeping Scott around for longer than he ultimately was.
