10 Actors Who HATED Making TV Shows

8. Shailene Woodley - The Secret Life of the American Teenager

Community Pierce Chevy Chase
ABC Family

Years before she broke out into films in the likes of The Descendants and The Spectacular Now, Shailene Woodley was best known as the pregnant teen lead of ABC's drama series The Secret Life of the American Teenager.

But in recent years, Woodley has spoken up about her frustration with being contractually "stuck" on the show as it increased its conservative, pro-abstinence messaging over the course of its five-season run.

In a 2020 interview with Bustle, Woodley said:

"There were a lot of things that were written into the scripts that not just me, but a lot of the cast, disagreed with... There were belief systems that were pushed that were different than my own. Yet legally I was stuck there. To this day it’s one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do. So being on Secret Life propelled me to be more vocal about my own belief systems."

In the very least, Woodley now has enough industry cachet and star power that she'll never again be forced into accepting material she morally disagrees with.
