10 Anime That Have No Right To Be This Good
4. Uncle From Another World
Well, it looks like it's a hattrick for isekai anime. Thus far, you've seen a regular but surprisingly brilliant one and a shockingly compelling reverse version. Now it's time to look at an isekai that lovingly pokes fun at the genre with self-awareness, solid humour and some amusing satire.
Uncle From Another World does just what it says on the tin. It shows as a young boy (Takafumi) meets with his uncle, who has awoken from a 17-year-long coma. Bizarrely, his uncle claims to have been in an alternate fantasy world that whole time, and Takafumi, quite rightfully, chocks it off as insanity. That is until the uncle shows him some of the magic skills he learned there.
There's so much to love about the series, but the uncle is the sore thumb that sticks out best. He's effortlessly adorable and likeable, despite his very creepy visage. His poor looks even play into the story, as he's supposed to seem like a deadbeat loser.
A lot of the show's humour comes from the uncle misunderstanding isekai tropes. You're shown memories from his time in another world and constantly watch as he ruins his chances at a power fantasy adventure. He ignores the loving elf following him around, continually breaks things and is bullied by everyone for being an "orc face". It's a hilarious role reversal of your typical iskeai.
