Jynx is one of the most striking Pokémon from the original 150; a rare humanoid monster and one of the few female-only species. Jynx was prominently featured in four anime episodes including her starring role in the first Christmas episode of the show’s run…

Pokémon: Indigo League - Holiday Hi-Jynx - Season 2, Episode 10

Plot:

A Christmas special that see's Ash and the gang help a petrified Jynx who has one of Santa's boots. While Jessie plans her revenge on Santa and his Jynx for a childhood indiscretion.

Call For Censorship:

Just as Jynx is one of the most recognisable Pokémon, you also don’t have to probe beyond the character's original depiction to recognise the monster’s problematic potential. Jynx’s appearance provoked outrage due to the Pokémon's resemblance to blackface, the dated and offensive method to mimic and mock those of African descent using grotesque caricature. There was also an added layer that the Pokémon’s name provided a derogatory link between Black people and voodoo.

Early on, the Jynx episodes were soft banned, however, in 2014 the episodes were instead heavily edited, with future Jynxs now coloured purple.
