10 Beloved TV Shows SAVED By Fans
2. Community
Back in 2009, NBC seemed to have captured lightning in a bottle with a show about a study group at Greendale Community College that was simply titled Community.
Community's use of meta-humour and pop culture satire gave way for a massive cult following, although the show was unable to achieve the ratings that NBC had hoped for and the network axed it after five seasons.
Borrowing a line from the show, fans' lobbied behind the "six seasons and a movie" mantra, although NBC stood firm, declining to oblige Community's avid fanbase. Steaming platforms Netflix and Hulu were both pressed to pick up the show, but both turned it down and it seemed as though all hope was lost.
Then, seemingly out of nowhere, an unlikely saviour appeared. Yahoo! announced that Community would be getting a sixth season on its Yahoo! Screen service, going partway towards fulfilling that "six seasons and a movie" slogan.
Yahoo! has since shut down Screen, and show creator Dan Harmon has said it would be easier to make a movie than a seventh season. The show's cast have also expressed interest in a movie, so maybe the fans' demands really will come to fruition.
